An Overview:
English is spoken by over 800 million people around the world and is the main language for the international business community. The aim of the Business English Program at IBAIS University is to teach English using modern techniques in a stimulating atmosphere. More specifically, the Business English Program enables students to gain optimum proficiency in the English language skills and research skills necessary to embark on a professional career using English. The classes are intensive, comprehensive and practical applying English in everyday situations and business settings. Emphasis is placed on attaining a level of competency in reading, writing, grammar, listening, pronunciation, and research skills in different business cultures.
Career Opportunities:
The program opens a variety of career opportunities for graduates in the fields of business, media/communication, finance, international trade, government, and education. They can develop, among others interesting future careers as broadcasters, advertising executives, writers, and translators.
Admission Requirements:
A minimum GPA of 2.5 in both SSC and HSC or five subjects in O-level and two subjects in A-level are required. For all foreign certificates, the University as per rules of Bangladesh Government will determine equivalence.

Curriculum:
A student under normal work load will have 12 Credits per semester for this undergraduate program. Four- year program with 124 credits will be required to complete the Bachelor degree. These credits are divided into three areas:
- General Education Courses

- Elective Courses.
An Overview:
The courses offered by the Department of English for the degree of Bachelor of Arts in English have two Majors: Literature and Linguistics.
The program requires an extensive reading of texts of literature in English and a familiarity with the theoretical and critical approaches, which have shaped English studies in recent years. The program focuses on a study of literary periods, genres and theoretical issues, as well as a study of non-native literature in English and literatures in other languages. Language skills and techniques are part of the degree. Students are thus offered the possibility of working with texts from a number of different historical periods and geographical areas, and are given the tools to analyze them in a variety of ways.
For Linguistics concentration, the program emphasizes an extensive reading of English phonetics and phonology, English grammar, Morphology, Syntax, Applied Linguistics and Language Acquisition. These count as core courses in the Linguistics major.
Career Opportunities:
Students preparing to enhance their teaching careers can select any concentration from Literature/Language/Applied Linguistics and ELT. The English Literature major is the ideal liberal arts major for students desiring to develop capabilities in research, writing, critical thinking, and textual analysis combined with the study of literature and language. And students preparing to teach English as a Second Language are advised to take linguistics major. For pre-professional and general liberal arts majors, linguistics contributes to analytical and research skills that enhance professional résumé. Applied Linguistics and ELT are for students who are pursuing Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) endorsement concurrently with the MA in English.
2+2 Degree Program: CREDIT TRANSFER
In this age of globalization, a large number of Bangladeshi students like other part of the world, have the thirst for the degrees of American universities. For this, IBAIS University made an academic collaboration with the University of Michigan-Flint, USA. Under this collaboration, students after completing 1st and 2nd year (63 Credits) at IBAIS University can transfer their credits to the University of Michigan-Flint, USA.
Admission Requirements:
Every applicant, without any exception, must fulfill the admission requirements as laid down by IBAIS University. Admission test and interview for admission into the first semester will be held three times a year. No interim or supplementary admission test or interview will be arranged.
A higher secondary certificate or its equivalent in Science, Arts, Commerce or other fields of study is the basic educational requirement. Minimum qualifying GPA to be eligible to apply is 2.5 individually in SSC/’O’ level and HSC/’A’ level examinations.
Student having Bachelor (pass)/Associate - Diploma: (2-4 years) degree will get waiver from the general education courses.
For all foreign certificates, the University as per rules of Bangladesh Government will determine equivalence.
Degree Requirements:
The BA degree requirements are as follows:
- Completion of 129 Credits.
- Completion of the Dissertation with at least a ‘C+’ grade (6 Credits)
- Passing all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of 2.5

The primary objective of the Bachelor Program in Tourism & Hotel Management is to produce skilled manpower and competent personnel well-trained to meet the demand of the Tourism sector. Since Tourism is a lucrative sector both for Private and Government undertakings, there is a high demand world-wide for professional degree in this sector. Responding to this demand, IBAIS University has entered into collaborative arrangement with the University of Bedfordshire(UK), Bangkok University, (Thailand), College of Tourism & Hotel Management(Cyprus), City of London College(UK), the Institute of Hospitality Management,(Ireland)- institutions known for their rich academic standard for this kind of Professional Education.
The program focuses on operational skills and management practice in the tourism, hotel and hospitality industry. An Overview:
The Master of Arts in English offers three majors: Literature, Language, and ELT & Applied Linguistics. The literature concentration emphasizes research and the application of various critical approaches to problems in literature and composition. The language concentration emphasizes the skills and techniques of English Language. The Applied Linguistics and ELT concentration are primarily designed for those who hold or expect to hold positions of responsibility in the teaching of English Language.
The Master of Arts in English Literature/Language/ELT and Applied Linguistics has been designed for two types of students:
A-type: Students having graduation from any discipline are eligible to apply. Students have to complete the Pre-requisite courses before the required and specialization courses. The duration of the total program is 2 (two) years.
B-type: Students having Bachelor degree in English are waived pre-requisite courses. The duration of the total program is 1 (one) year.
Career Opportunities:
The program opens a variety of career opportunities for graduates in the fields of teaching, media, communication, education government and non-government organizations. They can also develop interesting future careers as broadcasters, advertising executives, writers, translators and executives.
Admission Requirements:
Students seeking admission to the Master's program must have minimum CGPA 2.5 in Bachelor Degree in English Literature/Language/Applied Linguistics/TEFL/ TESL/TESOL or an equivalent degree from an approved university.
For all foreign certificates, the University as per rules of Bangladesh Government will determine equivalence.
Degree Requirements:
The MA degree requirements are as follows:
(a) Completion of 36-60 Credits
(b) Completion of the thesis with at least a `C+’ grade (6.0 Credits)
(c) Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum CGPA of 3.00
